Sports Injury and Rehabilitation Clinic for Young Athletes

Pediatric and Adolescent Sports Injury Clinic

The Pediatric and Adolescent Sports Injury Clinic at ALYN Hospital has opened its doors, bringing exciting news to young athletes and their families! The clinic is dedicated to the diagnosis, consultation, and treatment of sports related injuries in children and adolescents aged five to twenty one. It provides comprehensive medical care for both competitive and recreational athletes across a wide range of sports, with full consideration of the unique needs of the growing body.

Pediatric Sports Medicine Led by Dr. Adi Friedman

The clinic is headed by Dr. Adi Friedman, who also serves as Director of the Unit for Arthroscopic Surgery and Sports Injuries at Hadassah Mount Scopus. Dr. Friedman brings extensive clinical experience in the following areas:

  • Knee injuries and rehabilitation, including advanced diagnosis and rehabilitation of athletes and physically active patients
    • Advanced orthopedic surgery, including cutting edge cartilage treatments, cartilage transplantation, and innovations in sports orthopedics

Dr. Friedman has received professional recognition for his contributions to the field, including the Hadassah “Medicine with a Soul” Award, honoring physicians for exceptional dedication to the quality of medical care.

Medical Evaluation and Treatment

The intake process begins with a comprehensive pediatric sports medicine evaluation conducted by Dr. Adi Friedman a specialist orthopedic surgeon. The goal of this assessment is to accurately identify the source of pain or functional limitation, with careful attention to the unique skeletal structure of children and adolescents. Based on the findings, an individualized orthopedic treatment plan is developed. This may include conservative rehabilitation, guidance on load management and injury prevention, or referral for surgical intervention in complex cases.

Rehabilitation of Sports Injuries in Children and Adolescents

Children are not simply smaller adults. Their musculoskeletal system is still developing and includes growth plates that are particularly sensitive to mechanical stress. For this reason, rehabilitation following a sports injury in a child requires a different clinical approach. We design personalized post injury rehabilitation programs that take into account the patient’s age and specific sport, with the goal of ensuring a safe, gradual, and complete return to activity, while minimizing the risk of recurrent injury.

Conditions We Treat

The clinic provides care for a wide range of common sports related conditions, including:

  • Overuse injuries resulting from repetitive or excessive physical load
    • Growth related pain and knee conditions, including Osgood Schlatter disease, Sever’s disease and anterior knee pain
    • Traumatic injuries, including fractures, sprains, dislocations and tendon or ligament injuries
