Neuropsychology assessments

What can be learned about the child as a result of the diagnosis?

The neuropsychologist compares the results of each child with the results of other children in the same age group and devises a personal profile that focuses on your child's strong suits, as well as on aspects they struggle with.

The summary may help a child’s caregivers in a number of ways: the diagnostic results can explain why a child demonstrates difficulty in academic functioning. For example, a child may have difficulty reading as a result of attention problems, language impairment, impaired auditory processing or a developmental disorder in the acquisition of reading skills. From the results of the assessment, ways of intervention and treatment can be formulated by using the child's skills to overcome difficulties and learn operational strategies.

The neuropsychological diagnosis can allow for a better understanding of the child's behavior and learning abilities in school, at home and in the community. Results of the evaluation can guide teachers, caregivers and you as parents regarding how to help your child reach his or her full potential.

The assessment is also suitable for detecting the effects of developmental, neurological and medical problems such as epilepsy, autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), dyslexia or a genetic syndrome. In this case, the diagnosis can provide the child's baseline state in order to evaluate the impact of various interventions and treatments later on.
