"MY CREDO"
The philosophy behind the Respiratory Rehabilitation Unit at ALYN Hospital is based on the belief that the best place for a child on a ventilator is at home with his/ her family and friends.
In most cases chronically ventilated children are able to live at home and attend school provided that their parents have been trained to care for them, that the home has been suitably adapted and that the discharge process from the hospital is carried out slowly, step by step.
The Respiratory Rehabilitation Unit helps parents reacquire the ability to care for their children. Overcoming psychological barriers – the fear of assuming sole and full responsibility for a child with a complex and chronic respiratory ailment – is the key to successful respiratory rehabilitation.
We believe that ventilated children have the right to grow up in their own home rather than in a hospital and ALYN's aim is to help ventilated children and their parents achieve this goal.
