The children of ALYN visit the zoo

9 May, 2013

Do you remember how excited you were the first time you went to the zoo?

For the children undergoing rehabilitation in ALYN's Respiratory Rehabilitation Department a visit to Jerusalem's Biblical Zoo is included in their rehabilitation process. 15 children, 1-16 years old, along with their parents and siblings, participated in the outing. They saw different animals, visited the penguins and enjoyed the petting zoo.

"A zoo outing is held once every year" says Dr. Eliezer Be'eri, Director of ALYN's Respiratory Rehabilitation Department. "The kids have fun but it's especially important for the parents. Some of these children have never been out of the hospital. A recreational outing, with medical supervision, enables parents to enjoy an activity done with most children.

For some of the parents this was the first time their child has been outside in the sunlight. Seeing parents walking around with their child, sitting with him on the grass, caring for him, talking to him, playing with him was heartwarming. Activities like this contribute to parent's motivation to take their child home, which is our main goal". 1 year old Zohar's father Aviv summed it up "Zohar really enjoyed herself, it was fun. It's good for Zohar, and for us, to get away from the daily routine ".
