Arthrogryposis

Patients suffering from arthrogryposis comprise a unique and highly complex population that requires a skilled team of therapists that is familiar with the challenges and the potential complications of treatment. The team treating arthrogryposis at ALYN is comprised of senior physiotherapists, senior occupational therapists, physicians from the orthopedic department, and additional therapists and specialists as needed (speech therapists, pediatricians, and more).

Treatments include  physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and also serial casting and braces as needed, with our main emphasis being on achieving the highest degree of independent functioning as possible for each child, according to his/her age and medical condition. A significant portion of children will require orthopedic surgery during their lives, in order to improve their functioning and independence.

It’s important to start the treatment as early as possible, in the first few weeks of their life, in order to preserve any existing range of motion. We will instruct you on how to maintain existing range of motion, and provide you with close assistance, but you, the parents, will perform the bulk of the treatment every day at home.
