Since its establishment in 1995 Beterem, the National Center for Children's Safety and Health, has been working to promote child safety throughout Israel.
Beterem works all over the country to provide services, initiate projects and lay the groundwork for the creation of long term projects using a variety of prevention strategies and focusing on cooperation with a number of organizations - each specializing in a different field - which are working to improve child safety.
Beterem has set up branches of its organization in a number of hospitals throughout the country with the aim of educating as many families as possible about how accidents can be prevented. There is now a branch of Beterem in ALYN Hospital and the ALYN staff are creating educational programs relating to safety measures which can be taken in order to prevent accidents, both within the home and outside the home, involving children with special needs.
In the various branches of Beterem explanations and guidance are given on how to prevent accidents and the possible need for hospitalization, to young mothers, staff and parents of children who are receiving treatment in ALYN. A team of occupational therapists headed by Taube Korn z"l led to the establishment of the Beterem branch in ALYN Hospital believing that accident prevention must be an integral part of ALYN's professional work.
Throughout the years of working to rehabilitate children with severe physical challenges, ALYN has seen the need to expand the educational activities relating to the prevention of accidents involving children with special needs.
Over the last decade, with the establishment of The National Center for the Safe Transportation of Children with Special Needs in ALYN Hospital, a connection between ALYN and Beterem has been created through the exchange of information concerning safe transportation. Over the years this connection has been deepened and led to the establishment of the Beterem Branch in ALYN in 2007 with the purpose of cooperation, expansion and development of knowledge, work techniques and the development of projects and services to increase safety measures for children with special needs.
