Israel’s Chief Rabbi visits ALYN

11 January, 2012

The Chief Rabbi of Israel Rabbi Yona Metzger recently visited ALYN Hospital to learn about the Hospital's new Prenatal Rehabilitative Consultation service for parents of a fetus at risk as a result of a congenital disorder.

Rabbi Metzger toured the various departments of AYLN accompanied by the Director General  Dr. Maurit Beeri, Deputy Director Naomi  Gefen, Rabbi  Zvi  Porat  advisory Rabbi of the new service, Director of the Pediatric Respiratory Rehabilitation Department  Dr. Eliezer Be'eri and Director of the Rehabilitation Department Dr. Emmanuel Kornitzer.

Dr. Maurit Beeri explained to Rabbi Metzger about the innovative consultation service for parents who have been told that their baby will be born with a congenital condition and who are obviously deeply concerned about the implications and the prognosis for their unborn infant.  Parents will be able to receive information and guidance during a private consultation with an ALYN team of specialists which will include a pediatrician with many years of experience in pediatric rehabilitation, a social worker and a religious mentor i.e. a rabbi or other religious leader.

Following his tour of the Hospital Rabbi Metzger praised the work of Rabbi Zvi Porat as a member of the consultation team coordinating between parents, hospitals and community Rabbis. Rabbi Metzger continued, " I was deeply impressed to see the sacred work you are doing in ALYN and I wish this new project every success.  I admire the very important work  you are doing here in ALYN and I wish you all every success."
