Igor Takes his First Steps in ALYN

15 June, 2011

Eight year old Igor from Siberia walked for the first time in his life after receiving rehabilitation at ALYN Hospital!

ALYN Hospital is rehabilitating children from Siberia who are suffering from cerebral palsy.

The first 6 Siberian children, out of a total of 150, recently arrived at ALYN. Over the next year and a half groups of Siberian children will be admitted to ALYN for short periods to undergo evaluation and to receive rehabilitation therapies.

As the treatment options in Siberia are very few the Russian government has chosen to send groups of Siberian children suffering from cerebral palsy to ALYN Hospital for rehabilitation. Eight year old Igor was part of the first group of children and just a few days after his arrival he took his first steps!!

This project involves 150 Siberian children between the ages of two to twelve who are arriving at ALYN in groups of six.  Each child is  accompanied by a parent and following a detailed evaluation by ALYN's multidisciplinary staff a comprehensive and personalized rehabilitation program is planned for each patient.

Dr. Maurit Beeri, Director General of ALYN says that ALYN is proud to share its wealth of expertise, knowledge and experience with children from all over the world such as the contribution made by ALYN therapists in Haiti following the horrific earthquake.  "We are proud that the Russian Government has chosen ALYN for this important project and we are sure that these children will benefit from the devoted and professional treatment which they are receiving from the ALYN staff".
